COMING UP

Throughout 2004/05 I performed and travelled with an Irish Drag King troupe called the Shamcocks. I photographed our troupe and the other kings we performed with in Toronto, Chicago & across Ireland. The work culminated in an exhibition, then the photographs and negatives got boxed up and gathered dust in the attic.

I'm wondering why I keep the photographs, are they historical documents? do they belong in an established archive?  Who owns them? Should I destroy them?

To decide I've been interviewing the people who appear in the photographs and asking them what they think. I've been interviewing archivists and people involved in different areas of Irish queer arts & culture.

These discussions will culminate in a two day event which will present the research as an installed audio/visual/discursive work questioning the role & importance of the photographic archive.

Friday 19th to Sat 20th Dec.

The Joinery, Arbour Hill, Dublin 7

Opening Thursday 18th Dec, hot port & whiskey reception, all welcome.
